Regis Chapman
Summary
Three decades running the systems other people depend on: enterprise servers, networks, virtualization, and VoIP, with early stretches at Apple, Sun Microsystems, and Microsoft and eight years as the senior administrator for a First Nations government serving 500+ users and 150+ VMs. I have been the final escalation point at every level, from Apple and Sun phone engineering to sole responsibility for an organization’s entire infrastructure, and I have carried major migrations (Netware to Active Directory, Mac to Windows, a full platform migration at a crypto foundation) without unscheduled loss of service. Most recently I built and ran the operational tooling behind a public-goods grants program: dashboards on Vercel, pipelines across Linear, Notion, and Airtable. I read how a system is actually built and make it run, whether that is a server network under load, a phone system, or a tooling stack nobody documented.

Experience
- Built and ran the operational backbone of a grants program that directed more than 1,400 ETH: dashboards on Vercel, evaluation pipelines across Linear, Notion, and Airtable, Fillout intake systems, and KarmaGAP grantee tracking, used by the team daily.
- Stewarded 159 project grants through a full platform migration (V1 to V2) without losing operational continuity.
- Authored the public standards the operation ran on, used to make a funding round legible before it opens.
- Sole senior administrator for a First Nations government: 500+ users, 150+ VMs, multiple sites.
- Architected and ran the full stack: VMware/ESXi virtualization, Citrix, Active Directory, DNS, Windows and Linux servers, Nimble SAN and Synology NAS storage; responsible for resource allocation, backups, capacity planning, disk and file systems, user administration, patching, scripting, and system security.
- Oversaw the transition from Novell Netware to Active Directory.
- Rolled out and maintained the organization’s Cisco UCM VoIP system, 8851 handsets, and associated virtual machines; programmed and upgraded PBX switches.
- Delivered two rounds of major network upgrades; served as final escalation for all systems.
- A second First Nations government held concurrently with Cowichan; provided system administration for the Tribe.
- Freelance, part-time alongside the full-time roles above. Main technical consultant for an ecommerce business: system administration, site architecture and design, marketing automation, and communications.
- Built and ran the live WooCommerce store end to end: catalog, cart, checkout, shipping tiers, and promotions.
- Designed and implemented IT plans and system architecture for business clients, from infrastructure through web presence.
- Architected and implemented the UNIX side of a developer lab environment: Solaris plus RedHat/CentOS and SUSE Linux, provisioned and customized through System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 on Hyper-V hosts, with Bash and PowerShell automation.
- Managed the physical and VM host systems running Windows Server 2008 and 2012.
- System Architect at UniversalMac MSP (2014), writing IT implementation plans and standardizing deployment for managed-service clients.
- Ran all computer systems, servers, and networks for a residential retreat organization, alongside its web and communications design.
- Final escalation point for end-user and service-provider calls, up to 20 per day; technical resource for field and support engineers; authored knowledge-base articles that raised team productivity.
- Final escalation for Solaris support; worked directly with engineering, system administrators, and IT specialists on complex issues; authored knowledge-base content.
